Where is the wireless receiver component in a laptop?

I realize that picking up wireless internet mostly depends on the source of the router, but I can't seem to figure out why the angles I place my computer at when I'm using it sometimes work and sometimes do not when connecting to a wireless internet source. I'm wondering where the unseen-antennae is generally placed in a computer so I can think about how I should be angling it.

I have a Sony Viao. If anyone has any tips for how to position your computer to increase the chance that internet will be picked up, please post them here. I frequently bring my laptop to classrooms which are on the very edge of their respective router's broadcast range, as there is generally one per every floor or two floors.

Thanks for any help--
