where is the thermostat located on a 2000 mercury cougar?

i need to replace the thermostat in my car and the manual does not tell me where it is located does anyone know where that is
my manual does not tell me where this is and when i took the engine apart i could not follow where the hose goes does anyone know where that hose ends up and where the thermostat is on there
