Where is the tach filter located on a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird, with the 3.1V6 engine?

The tach needle jumps around and I've read that it is due to a cheap defective tach filter that the factory used. It is easy to build a new filter out of two resistors and a capacitor, but I can't find the old one to replace it. One source I was reading seems to indicate that the tach filter components are located on the back of the Tachometer printed circuit board itself, in the instrument cluster. But the WD indicates that the filter is closer to the coil in the engine compartment coming off of the number one coil wire between the coil and the tachometer. Does anyone know where it is? Everything is wrapped in anti-chaff and I don't want to break something searching for it. Thanks.
