It may sound stupid, but how do you drain the water from a 2004 chevy truck and where is the radiator cap?

To drain the water (coolant) from a car radiator, you use a plug at the BOTTOM of the radiator. It will not drain from the whole system, but it will drain from the radiator itself.
The cap should be on top of the radiator, BUT some cars do not have it there. It it's not there, use the cap on top of the plastic reservoir (it's usually inside the engine compartment, maybe above the wheel somewhere. It looks like a gallon size tank connected to the radiator by a hose.)

There is no rad cap. There is a cap for adding coolant on top of the overflow tank. Follow the small hose from the top of the rad to the tank.

If there isn't a petcock (small drain valve) on the back edge of the radiator (normally they turn to the left to open which is opposite a normal valve), then you may have to remove the lower radiator hose to drain the radiator and block.
