Many times in our history our ways have been changed, obviously or we would still have slaves and still be cutting ppls fingers off for stealing. The law changes when someone stands up and realizes that the way we have been doing things isn't right. Well i think its that time again. I believe that every case should be handled according to the case, just because someone broke the law doesn't mean they are guilty. What i mean by this is that considering the circumstances for which the person committed the crime should determine the persons punishment. For example, if a man walks in on his wife with another man and the man is killed, should the man be sentenced to life in prison for killing a man that had ruined his marriage? His whole life? Another example, if two buddies and i decided to go to a city an hour away to find something to do and then headed back home aaround 12:00 at nite, im 17, kaleb is 18 and David is 15. Only kaleb and I have licenses, but i dont have my after nines so by the LAW im not allowed to drive after nine o clock. So i let kaleb drive. We are practically out of gas and only have two dollars and are still 30 min from home, kaleb starts to get sleepy and starts swerving and says he is too sleepy to drive. So since its the LAW that i shouldnt drive after nine should i continue to let kaleb drive which could potentially end all 3 of our lives and even someone elses on the road? Or should i take his place at the wheel and get us home? As the story goes on we are running out of gas, a steep hill comes up on the highway so as we head down the hill i shift it into neutral to conserve gas and to hopefully make it up the next hill and stop at the closest gas station to pump 2 dollars worth of gas. As i speed up i end up going 15 mph over the speed limit, no cars in sight at all though. Then i get blue lighted and get pulled over. I tried explaining to the police that we were out of gas and that i was just coasting to get to the gas station. He blabs about what if some pedestrian jumps out of the woods into the freeway then he/she would be killed. He was right, i wouldnt be able to stop or avoid the pedestrian, but two things should be noticed here, one, why would a pedestrian jump into the free way at 12:16 at nite, and two, would 15 mph less of speed save a 170 lb man's life if a 800 lb car hits him? So by the law i am guilty for speeding, 70 in a 55, and for driving after nine. But am i really guilty? Not only do i wanna change the law for my case, but for EVERYONE else in America. I believe every case should be considered for judgement. Can someone help me?
