Where is the best place to gain work experience for law school with my low GPA?

I just recently graduated from college and I want to go to law school. However, I did not have the best GPA for law school so, it was suggested by a law school that I take a year off try and get some work experience at a law firm. I have not yet taken the Lsat's.
