where in northeast would you say are good places for daytrips/overnights? (hiking)?

For Hiking, my favorite place is the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate NY.

The Old Forge area is where I normally go but Lake George, Tupper Lake or Lake Placid are also very nice areas for hiking.
