Where does the UN derive its power to enforce "international law"?

Based on my understanding of the issue, this is like asking a group of thieves to punish themselves for stealing.
What I'm asking is that if a nation, say the USA, decided not to abide by the UN "international law" what power would the UN have to enforce its "laws".
 
It derives its power from the United Nations Charter. Nations are obligated to follow international law by that document.

If a nation does not abide by international law, other countries may act together to issue sanctions or build a military coalition against that nation. The UN is designed to bring nations together at the table for international diplomacy, not to be a world government. When nations do not put their full weight behind the organization, it fails. FDR would be rolling in his grave right now if he saw the sorry state of the UN.
 
It is the governing body that decides these things--the administration of the UN does not.
 
Well, they seem to do a pretty good job of providing child molesters and rapists to war torn areas.

They just do whatever the USA tells them to do as long as there isn't any significant uproar from their own people.
Kind of makes me wonder why everyone hates the UN so much.

They just let someone who wants to attack them have at it, and call their enforcement of laws the excuse.
