Where do i put the thermometer probe at from my Ball Python?

Im not sure where i put it to read the temp for the ground.I have a heat pad and a heat lamp for him.I also have a thermometer that sticks on the wall of his tank.That reads 92 and the ground one reads 87.Im not sure if i have the probe in the right area or not.Where is the best place to put the probe thermometer at?

I was told to put it near my heat pad? If i do that would right near the entrance of his hide.I have the heat mat right under is hide spot.
