Where do I put freon in a 1996 Cadillac?

I have a 1996 Cadillac that needs freon. As I look at the open hood from the front, there appears to be an input on the far left of the car, and another on the far right. The one on the left which should I put the freon in? The one on the left fits the hose, but it doesn't seem any freon is going in. The one on the right is too big for the hose. What am I doing wrong?
