where did Rabbi and Author Aryeh Kaplan get his university degrees?

Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan is claimed to be "almost as brilliant as Einstein" - it is also claimed that he has masters degree(s) from a university.
Try as I might, I can't locate any university/college who have records of this.
Did he in fact just claim this in order to sell his books? Many of which seem to contain some very dubious science, used to reinforce his religious claims. Either he didn't understand the science or he deliberately used it to mislead his audience. Which??
Can anyone clarify.

Rabbi Kaplan, I read, based on a rabbinic degree, entered the University of Kentucky's masters program in Physics without an undergraduate degree. He completed the program. I assume this was in the 50's.
