I have a 98 chevy 1500 pick up. The other day the temp gauge was fluctuating. I thought it was the thermostat, but checked the radiator and No anti freeze. I added 2 gallons the other day, and it looks like it has dissapeared again. No leaks on the ground or around the hoses that I can see. Where could it be going? BTW, the temp is running normal again.

if you notice a slight smell in the cab of the truck, or the windshield gets a fog on it that you can;t seem to remove, it is probably going to be the heater core. i'll bet that is your problem. hope this helps! it could also be a freeze plug. check the your owners manual to find location of all freeze plugs. after getting it up to running temp., raise the hood and look all around for steam. there can be such a very small hole rusted in the plug, that it takes steam , and pressure to show it to you. do this on a cold day for ease of finding leak.

Radiator, top or bottom hoses. Cracked block. If your heater doesn't work, thermostat.
