Where can I find info on laws about cosigning for apt & how it applies to renewals?

I cosigned for an apt for a 12-mo lease. It has been 18-mo since I cosigned. The apt complex is saying I'm still liable because they renewed the lease, but I can't find that info on the new lease. Anyone have advice or can give me a website with info. Thanks.
