Where can I find cheap, used road bikes (bicycles)? ?

I'm a student and I'm broke lol:

I see kids at my school riding road bikes and now I want one too. Is there a place where I can find them for cheap? I don't want to spend over 200. I want to actually fix up the road bike myself slowly. I'm in the southern California area
 
Check with your local police department. You'll be amazed at how many bikes that have been stolen, recovered, and remain unclaimed. Once or twice per year they have an auction. You can pick up a pretty good bike at a pretty good price.
