When's the best time to exercise during the day?

I exercise for about an hour twice a week. I wake up after a refreshing sleep. Eat a huge breakfast consisting of grains and dairy. Wait 2 hours. Eat a fruit. Wait one more hour, pump some iron. After I'm finished I chug some whey protein water and eat something with protein in it.

I was just wondering if there is a better method to help me bulk up than the way I'm doing it now.

I've been told that it's better to wake up and eat a fruit and drink some whey protein water one hour before you exercise and drink some whey protein water after you're done.

Which of these is better, or is there an even better alternative to these methods?
