whenever i try to download a game and open it on my macbook it won't open?

but when i open the same game on my desktop mac computer it will work. i even tried it on my mac mini and it worked. the games that i already had on there work but then when i try to open games that i just downloaded it will not work. any ideas to why this happens? and any ideas how to fix this? i've tried a lot of things and still it will not work.
