Whenever I put in a tampon, I get this weird feeling...?

I've had my period for about five years now and have been using pads, but this time I wanted to try tampons instead. I've used a few since my period started, but every time I push the end of the applicator in to insert the tampon it feels like it's pushing against something and it feels kind of odd. I don't know how to describe it other than some sort of uncomfortable thickness. I'm still a virgin and a tampon is the only thing that's ever been in there. Can anyone tell me what it might be?
 
Yeah, I get that too. It's just the tightness in your muscles. Try to relax more, and you won't have it 'pushing'.
