when you get white rice from a large bag, do you rinse/wash it before cooking it?...

My friend buys rice in 7 pound bags but he doesn't rinse/wash before cooking. I don't believe that any real harm can be done by not washing it, and the rice tastes good without washing it as well.

In Asia, we always washed our rice before cooking it. By washing the rice it it reduces the starch in the rice and makes it less sticky/gummy and removes any dirt or impurities.

It is much lighter and fluffier with the starchy residue rinsed away, it helps the grains separate, and cooks more evenly in the cooker.

If its basmati rice from a sack its better rinsed as it could have little stones and husks in it, but from a supermarket bag its fine to just use it . Any other rice can be used right away.
