Ok so for christmas im getting a 29 gallon tank and i already have a cycled 10 gallon tank and i hear you can take the filter media out of the 10 gallon and put it in the filter slot of the 29 gallon and i have 2 questions about that

1.Do you take out the filter pad that you ussaly through away or do you take out the one that is in front of it that you never remove.

2.Do you haft to have fish in the tank when you cycle it with the filter media or can you just do a "fishless cycle" like that.

Not sure about q1.
Q2: If you have a filter media from ur old cycled tank, you will have a fishless cycle.
Fish cycles are used when you don't have a old cycled tank

Its called seading, you just take a chunk of the filter media from the 10g. and place it in the 29g. filter slot once its up and running.

If you want to wait to ad the fish that's fine, the seeding simply jump starts the cycling process and makes it easier on your fish. depending on how much you add to the 29g. ( the more the better)
