I wouldn't expect the 9th generation Civic until around 2012 models since the current one started as an 06 model. There are rumors that they will offer a diesel in the US (in an Acura at 1st) but I doubt they will unless they have a half used diesel engine plant somewhere and need the volume because diesels sell so poorly in the US. They do have them in Europe.

Europeans are really the only ones doing diesel's. Over there the government heavily taxes gas cars and their emissions laws are set up to favor diesel engines. Japan is set up for very small gas engines. The US and Canada are set up for gas engines without the size penalty (until Obama wrecks something else).

I don't see Honda offering a diesel option; they seem committed to hybrid (gas/electric), all-electric and hydrogen as their solution to fuel efficientcy and alternative fuel challenges.

Actually, do ANY Japanese brands offer diesel engines for consumer vehicles? I can't think of any. It seems that the Europeans, and to a lesser extent the US, are the ones exploring diesel
