When will Big 10 fans ever complain about having to go on the road to play

in the Rose Bowl? The Pac-10 practically gets a home game for the Rose Bowl, especially Southern Cal and UCLA, who play it in the same metropolitan area. UCLA, if they ever go again, even get it in their own home stadium. Yet no one mentions this. But have an SEC team play within 500 miles of their home stadium and it's a home bowl game for them (according to seemingly everyone else, not just Big 10 fans).
The Big 10 could get a tie-in with whatever they're calling the Motor City Bowl this year and get a "home" bowl game. I suspect they don't care anything about doing that though.
FIFA, many of the Southern bowls have been played in the same place for decades too, some since the 30s, and you hear no end if griping and moaning because of it. You're right about the tickets, but that seems to be missed by most people doing the complaining.
