no I'm not a twilight fan what I'm asking is when did the vampire legends start? did people in the medieval ages actually believe in vampires? or did they think it was just a novel(i don't know if the novel was based on previous legends or the novel was what originated them). and is the Vampire legend strictly European or is world spread(ancient not today obviously). for example the Legend of Atlantis is was even in the middle east and western asia(i think not sure about asia but im sure about the middle east)
damn sorry didn't notice how messed up my question looks sorry wasn't paying attention
woa people actually attacked each other because of the plague?

"Truth": People in the medieval times would get forms of rabies, and attack people and veer from the light. They would foam at the mouth and be pale from lack of sunlight.

That is where the 'vampire' originated from.

I choose not to believe that, i believe in vampires.

:D

Vampires started to appear mostly during the middle ages in the time of the plague because the way they would bury mass bodies. There was something online about it the other day can't remember where I read it now.

The idea about them was already conceptualized by the Ancient Greeks, although they had another term for such creatures (vrykolakas). The term vampire was not popularized until the early 18th century, after an influx of vampire superstition into Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent.

In our modern times, the vampires we hear about being claimed by certain people are just "imitation Vampires" (actually "pirated vampires" in my own terminology).

Carla 728 is talking about that recent yahoo picture and article about how bodies have been found from the Middle Ages. There was a picture of a woman's body with a brick crammed between her jaws, and that was to keep her from eating the other corpses or living people. Back then, they were called "Corpse Eaters." The pix was gross!
