We just got a new puppy (13 week old female pomeranian, intact) and whenever she gets in trouble and we shout "NO" or "HEY" or clap, whatever, our other dog (1 year old male lab, neutered) responds.
He's done nothing wrong, but he just seems really down compared to his typical, joyful self because he thinks he's getting in trouble all of the time.
How can we help him distinguish that we aren't fussing at him?
We can't just say her name first because
1.) she doesn't know it yet and
2.) she'll associate her name with getting in trouble
Is there something inaudible that we could use on her to get her attention when she's done wrong?
If our Lab's not back to normal in another day or so, we're headed to the vet, but I really think his change is because he thinks he's in trouble all of the time because of the things she's still learning (like house-training & chewing furniture).
I don't use names when I discipline dogs anymore because now we are having significant issues getting our Lab to come when he's called. At a year old, he should be a pro by now, but we called his name when he was a puppy in trouble.
Does the squirt bottle of water work on dogs? I know cats hate it. We didn't even bother trying to use water to deter our Lab (for obvious reasons - Oooooo!! Water!!! Some punishment that is.)
