When was your bike built.

Awhile ago I saw on another forum a link to a site where you could lookup your Duc's history by the VIN number. It listed the day it was built and a bunch of other stuff. Any one ever see the site. I can't find the link anymore and the computer that I had it on is long gone.

I asked the same questin in a couple other places and I'll post up as soon as I find it.

Outlaw,

I found these links:

Not sure what you mean mrinflux, in Europe our VIN numbers are 17 characters. VIN numbering is an international, not country specific, coding system.

TC,

Yeah, I hear ya. I pulled that info off the internet. I can't vouch for its accuracy.

Here's more info:

VIN Numbers explained (modern VIN's)

submitted by Larry Kelly

Here's Larry Kelly's excellent answer to a question regarding how to understand a VIN number. This answer takes into account fairly modern bikes:

US models and post-2002 Euro models have a 17 character VIN as follows:

Characters 1-3: World Manufacturer Identifier ( i.e. ZDM = Ducati)

Characters 4-8: Vehicle Descriptor Code assigned by manufacturer where,

Ducati coding method: (I'm speculating here based on a number of examples)

Mandated info (4 - 8) Type of motorcycle, line, engine type, and net brake horsepower.

Character 4: Motorcycle Type: 1 = street version, 3 = race version Character 5: Motorcycle Line: H = homologation model, L = supersport, S = superbike, R = monster, T = sport touring, U = 9X9 series, V = Multistrada

Character 6: Motorcycle Model: street model variations A, B, C; race model variations 7, 9

Characters 7 - 8: engine information code

Character 9: check digit used to verify the accuracy of the vehicle identification number.

Character 10: Model Year Code where,

R = 1994 S = 1995 T = 1996 V = 1997 W = 1998 X = 1999 Y = 2000 1 = 2001 2 = 2002 3 = 2003

Character 11: Factory Code (B = Bologna, V = Varase (the old MV factory)

Characters 12-17: six digit serial number.

EXAMPLES:

ZDM 1SB 8S 0 S B 003783 US 1995 916 Strada

Note: Prior to 2002, European models had a 13-character VIN, causing registration problems in some States.

leMr. Full System (Elton) U most certainly are a wealth of knowledge on just about every subject. I personally like it when you are informative.

Good thread I was wondering what all those letters and numbers meant.

However my character 5 is an X, what's that about? le

Von,

The 5th character in the VIN number designates a rider's experience. "X" for beginners, "Y" for intermediate riders, and "Z" for experienced riders. Hence the "X" designation in your VIN number.

Gotcha! I'm just messing with ya, Von! I have no idea what the "x" in your VIN number designates. I merely ran a google search for Outlaw and posted what I found.

Hope you're still lovin' your 1098 up there in ChiTown. (I love the yellow, btw. I agonized about getting yellow, but in the end went for red 'cause I didn't want to wait a minute longer than I had to. Red was the first color released, so I went with red.) The riding season must be drawing to a close for you guys. It's already starting to get cold here in Philly, and I know you guys get cold weather sooner up on the lake than we do over here in Philly.

Be safe, paint up and rubber down.

Peace, Elton

I have the final check list paper on the bike and it is dated 3-26-07. all the parts on the bike that is dated has a march date on them, so im assuming that it was built on or near the 26th. however can any one tell me why on the vin sticker it has a DEC 06 date of manufacturer??

Elton.... You just couldn't resist. That was very funny I'm still laughing about it.

Well-done

Okay so being the season is coming to a close fast. I still find time to seek out between stroms. Crazy I know. I wouldn't say I'm a beginner, bc I think I was meant to ride. The Pisces nature. So I have 6675 miles on my 2007 and I've had the best time enjoy this beautiful bike. i've meet so very interesting people some that go 150 or better (couldn't keep up) to those who road mellow. I've had so close calls, some mega wheelies and insane endos' U aske me was it worth the 16k and I'd tell u well worth it. It's amazing how many men & women love this bike. Would I do it again oh yeah. I just can.t wait to do it again in 2008 and I even get to start earlier than June. I figure I have about 7 good days left. 2 this weekend.

I can tell you this Elton, I would have gotten the 848 in white if it was out in 2007.
If everything goes right I'll have that in my stable 2008.

I'm in love with Ducati.

Von,

You got it bad. Good for you! Ducati is like that. It doesn't bite everybody. But when it bites, it bites hard. The only cure is a Ducati. Or two. Or three... You got a big garage? A white 848 would look sweet next to that yellow 1098! I'm a 907ie guy myself, (I'm thinking about gettin' another one!), but I hear ya.

The best thing about winter is all the Ducati Christmas presents under the tree. And the time to save for more Duc stuff in the spring.

Elton

Yep it's a 2 Car on 1 side you have the 1098 on other a CLEAN 87 Regal.

Forget the Ducati stuff under the tree get me nothing, but Gift Certifcates. I want that 848 (in white). Yes they would be a GREAT pair. it's either the 848 or the GT1000 for 2 up's riding.

Oh Elton, If I do get the 848 then I'd have a smaller bike to learn on.

Oh yeah, I got it bad. U see I've been in lovew Ducati since 95' and I didn't even own 1.
