When was blood testing invented?

My dad has hepatitis C and got it through a blood transfusion so i was just wondering when they started testing blood.

Well, generally speaking, blood testing was initiated many years ago, but not for constituents as specific as Hepatitis C. They were looking more at blood cells and other components of the whole blood (serum, protein, etc.).

As for the protocol to test all blood donations for bloodbourne pathogens prior to administration of the donated blood to a patient, well that came about as standard practice in the 80s.
