When talking about history does antiquity make an event more important than another?

Is antiquity the most important aspect of history because without it the future pasts would be different. For example the Battle of Marathon being considered one of the most important moments in Western Culture, because had the Athenians lost western culture would be dramatically different. In turn another very important battle Yorktown could have possibly never happened. Both battles can be said to have changed the world, but would Marathon be more significant because it happened before Yorktown? Or could Yorktown be considered more important because it drastically changed the course of modern history? * These are just examples to explain a point, obviously both are important I'm just trying to prove what I meant by future pasts.
