when symbian 4 comes out, will the n8 , e7 be compatiable ?

That is a question of the year when talking about Symbian. It is unlikely that Nokia will provide upgrade and hardware requirements are higher for S^4.

+1

It would be a good idea to have an upgradeable path now, no one left behind. Android phones are able to do it (to some degree) and so are iPhones (don't know about BB). Plus it sucks have a Feature Pack 1 device and you can't have the Feature Pack 2 software, when the specs of the phone are identical.

I think you pulled that out of … you get what I mean. Not sure where you heard that. Originally Symbian^2 was supposed to based off hardware platforms on Cortex A8 with Texas Instruments OMAP 3420 or higher … but that didn't really pan out in actual products. This may be the bases to what you've mentioned.

@Lordscr,

BlackBerry's have lead the front to OS ugpradability for years - far ahead of Android shipping or Apple - and supporting upgrade/downgrade beyond 1 OS iteration if the phone supports it - even by different carriers as part of your warranty. OS 6 breaks this though due to the complete overhaul of how its core system works. Leaks exist but are few and far between.

Tintin123, Nokia is not leaving Symbian. Where did you get that impression from? They will use Meego in the highest end devices, Symbian in all other smartphones.

Maverick, interesting table - did you find on the Symbian website or somewhere else? Wonder which Symbian versions it covers. I thought S^3 needed GPU but the tables says lower end devices would not require it - perhaps that refers to S^2?
