When setting a picture as wallpaper on my htc hero, do I have to crop it?

Kay, so everytime i want to set a picture as wallpaper on my htc hero, the crop box comes up to crop up & i try to stretch the box b/c i just want the whole picture, but it wont. So is there anyway i can just have the entire pic as my wallpaper or is it always gonna make me crop it??
