when people ask for gods guidance do they actually get it?

poeple have prayed for god to give me guidance about something - what i received instead was confusion about what they were asking? what does one mean by gods guidance and does such a think exist - and yes it does - is not proof - does god guide and if so how and yes please elaborate and dont used the thru others cop out lol
