When painting on a canvas can you use craft or multipurpose acrylic paints?

When painting on a canvas does it make a huge difference if you use acrylic paints that are also used for crafts or should you only use acrylics meant for actual paintings?

I didn't know if there was a difference other than in price. The craft/multipurpose acrylic pants at my local Michael's store were cheap like one or two bucks a bottle whereas the kinds meant for painting were 8 and 9 dollars a bottle.
