when my bf bought our jeep..his buddy owed 400 on a lein against the title..how do

we find where the lien is.? his buddy promised to pay off the lien so we could get the jeep in our name..well he hasn't paid it off and now we cant seem to contact him..how do we go about finding where the lien is..and how to take care of it so we can get the title. we have a bill of sales showing that he sold it to us..
