When my AC window unit turns on, my tv and other electronics turn off. Why?

I live in an older house. I just got this small Frigidaire window AC unit.
The fan runs for a little while when it turns on and then when the cooling system kicks in all the lights in the house dim, the tv turns off for a second and my game system turns off completely.

Here are my questions.

Why does this happen?
Is it a potential fire hazard?
The dimming lights don't really bother me but the tv and ps3 turning off is annoying. How can I fix that?
Is there a kind of surge protector/wall adapter that can keep the electronics on?

The compressor in the AC unit is drawing too many amps for the circuit and its causing systems to shut down. Try and isolate the AC to a different outlet that's is not in a series with the TV and game system
 
You have too many items running on the system. Stop using them at the same time until you can get someone to put in a new circuit for just that ac unit. Of it could over heat and cause a fire,.
