When Islam women are made to wear veils, is that faithful or rather dreadful?

One school of thought is that Islam women will wear veils, but wear theirs as short as they can get away with?
I don't understand why the west gets so angry about the veil. If it's their faith, we oughtn't challenge it, surely?

I don't think it says anywhere in the Quran that women have to wear veils, it's more of a cultural thing.

I'm sure some women don't mind being treated like an object belonging to a man but I would guess most don't like it. They just have to put up with it because to do otherwise would see them ostracised from their family. And given the patriarchal culture they are pretty much subjugated and have no means of escape.

Its a personal choice weather to use the full on veil or not. Most of them are cultural. In the hadith (tradition) set forth by the Prophet Mohammad (sawa) it is said that the only things that do not need to be covered are the circle of the face and the hands. The things that would normally show. We are just expected that we shouldn't draw so much attention. I myself could not wear full face veil. Those women that do wear have GUTS because so many other people who don't understand it...they force their opinion of it either directly by saying so or indirectly by avoiding, staring, whispering,etc...at her.

As a revert...I would leave it up to the person. For those men that want to force coverage on the woman... they are wrong too.

Muslims cover themselves up because G-d doesn't want them to look like whores, He created humans in pairs so Muslims believe only one person can see their body and that's their husband, also it's showing love and respect to G-d, that they care about His rules.
