When is valid discussion of complex subjects "chatting"?

There are some people here who consider any question that does not permit a single "correct" answer is a form of chatting, and the question and its answers, discussion and commentary should be deleted, no matter how interesting the topic.

I have no objection to removing personal comments that do not relate to the question (but I wish I could be told when and why a question I have answered in good faith has been deleted), but often a discussion of opposing views are a better way of getting at questions any more complex than a primary school homework exercise.

Is this chatting? Or simplistic censorship? Where should we draw the line?
