When is one's finances nobody else's business?

I have been with my vet for over a decade. I asked if I could split an upcoming bill for a future appointment (3 wks away) 2/3 appt day and the remainder a month from the appointment. I don't have an outstanding balance with the clinic. The business owner had a receptionist ask why I wasn't using Care Credit (a card often used in vet offices that I once had). I said I don't have it anymore. She then had the receptionist ask: "Why don't I have it anymore?" Now, I made my reply, but I ask: Is that none of her business why I don't have the card anymore? In truth, a previous vet they had that my brother used maxed up my card with tests that were questionably needed - to put it mildly. So the clinic has received a lot of business from me if its about money. I would have preferred - we are unable to do payment plans at this time or for bills under a certain amount a money - make it about their business not mine.
