I have been a competitive cheerleader (no not the sideline, standing there clapping - the kind that's on espn involving highly involve pyramids, gymnastics, dancing, and jumping in a performance) for 11 years now. In those years I have managed to get: 2 broken arms, 1 broken wrist, 6 broken fingers, 2 fractures in L-4, acl tear, medial meniscus tear, lateral meniscus tear, countless amounts of sprains/bruises/dislocations. Now a freshman in college, I re-tore the same meniscus as torn before, and possibly re-injured my acl (find out tomorrow). My question is - when does future health over come the love for the sport and cause retirement in an athlete. Will I not even remember these when I'm older? Or, Is my body permanently damaged and only going to get worse from here? When do I call it quits?
