Watching someone smash peas onto the tines of the back of a fork isn't
very appetizing. No wonder they're called "mushy" peas.

It's like apples and oranges, there's no comparison... what Americans
call a steak and what everyone else calls a steak has no relationship
to each other. Americans eat S_T_E_A_K... all the rest eat hors
duevers... they can't eat American style or their entire "steak" would
be one baby bite. What Americans serve one person in the rest of the
world would be steak for the entire family.

LOL!!! Important to *me*???!! You obviously aren't reading all the replies
from you Americans who are getting all bent out of shape about it :-)

Captain Peter Swallows batted her eyes at Doug Freyburger:

Uhh... you *are* American, aren't you, Doug? Swallows would just have a
*fit* if you weren't.

Most times. Especially during winter, and if the meal is all 'hot'. I
don't do it if there is salad on the plate, but then, she who has salad
usually only has it during the warmer months. Some times I have served the
salad in a seperate bowl and heated the plates for the steak and hot
sides.

Putting hot food on a cold plate tends to make it go colder a *lot*
quicker. And there is nothing worse than eating the last part of your meal
and it's stone cold. Try putting the plates in the oven if you're using it
(that is, of course, if you are using real dinner plates rather than
plastic plates like a lot of people on here use)... or run them under the
hot tap water for a minute or so, or put some hot water in the sink and
let them sit in it.

Naturally, you dry the plates before serving the food.

The SO eats the 'good stuff' last, hence she'll eat her veges/salad before
the steak.

And we don't have coordination issues, so no knife/fork "switcheroo".

Time consuming, yes. Showing your lack of coordination, manners, table
ettiquette, yes. Making it more difficult to eat, no.

That's why kids over here up to the age of about 5 use that method. They
havn't quite got their coordination down pat.

You really should read what is written, and take the time to understand
it. I said you can judge a person by how they eat, and gave you several
examples.

(ie) If the person eats like a pig, they usually are... etc, etc.

In your case, your knife/fork "switcheroo" just shows you are either
inherently lazy, or have coordination issues.... or both.

I learned this as a portion control strategy when I was actively low
carbing. Eat one item at a time with a rest in between each. The
salad, the low carb vegitable, the high carb vegitable, the meat. It
was to increase the filling effect of the veggies. It made it easier to
leave behind part of the meat for a meal that was satisfying at a lower
total calorie count but also hitting a carb count target.

I just can't do that :-)

I *like* to have a piece of steak with some salad on the fork. Or even a
piece of steak and maybe some chips, or a bit of salad and some chips etc,
etc.

It's all about multi dimensional flavours, rather than one dimensional.
