When I try to upload images or photos to my phone they go on to my handset memory...

...and memory card memory. Why? I have a Lg viewty and when I try to upload photos to it onto the memory card it always loads them to the handset memory as well. This is annoying as when i delete them from one place for instance the handset memory they get deleted from the memory card as well. This is useless as it just uses up twice as much memory overall on my phone.
Does anyone Know how to sort it out to make it stop doing this? or/and why it does it?
Please help
