When I sync my Nexus S to my computer, the "new file" doesnt come up under "my computer" in order to save data?

I know that I attach both ends of the cord to the phone and computer. Then I know to click "turn on USB storage"...but from there nothing appears on my computer for me to open it and save pictures, videos etc...how do I fix this??
