I've been practising trichotillomania on my beard, and sometimes there's something I don't have the name for around the bulb of the hair. It certainly looks oily. From diagrams ( http://www.madphysics.com/ask/images/razor/hair.jpg ) I'm guessing I could be referencing the dermic coat or "root sheath". It is translucent on most hairs, with only a few being towards opaque. A minority have a hint of blood at the end, but most just have the translucent material with the bulb visible.
Also, is there a trick to making this come out with the hair?
