When I look at a sharp edge or corner, it appears to fly toward my face.?

Has anyone heard of these symptoms? My 11 year old son, when he looks at a sharp object or corner, it appears to fly toward his face. He said he gets a sudden, dull pain in his eyes and he moves his head quickly to avoid the object hitting him in the face. The corner of the dresser appears to move toward his face, and if he is getting a steak knife out of the dishwasher, he says it appears as though the knife is flying upwards toward his eyes. He has excellent vision and is an A+ student. I am at a loss as to what is causing these symptoms. Please, if anyone has any information, let me know. Thanks!
