When I install an application on my mac, why doesn't it show up in the

applications folder? I can't drag it to the applications folder or to the dock either. The only way I can load it is to spotlight it and load it from there.
 
Hi, in what format is the application?

Is it in .dmg or .pkg1 or something like that?
