when i go downhill do i grab or leave the claws on a bike???

well ....if i grab the claws the bike seems....dying and i have 2 continuously keep on winding the accelerator.....if i let go the bike is like....gwahhhhhh....and i think that pretty much destroys the claw brake pad and consumes a lot of fuel...help anyone????
claws....i meant da gear changer brake other than the front or rear brakes
 
The gearshift is not a brake as such, but it enables you to use engine braking. You should always be in the right gear for the speed you are doing, and on a manual transmission bike you have to figure out for yourself which is the right one. When going downhill you should be in the lowest gear possible for the situation, especially when off road.
