You will most likely have to pay the activation fee too. There are some places that will activate the phone for free as a promotional offer though, if you buy/flash a phone from them. I recently bought a blackberry 8330 flashed for cricket from ebay and the seller included the activation free with the purchase. (I'm having serious issues with the phone malfunctioning, but I won't get into that)
Just ask them and see what they say. If you get it activated at a store, they will usually charge you taxes and extras, that's what they did when I got my son's phone activated. It ended up costing more than 19 dollars rather than the $15 I thought it would be. I think it's possible to call cricket and activate it through them, not completely sure. You may be able to avoid extra charges if you do it that way. Make sure you ask them how much it will be.
