when driving my honda civic key light came on car would not start?

year of car 97 14i injection petrol when i put key in ignition car turns over wont start. key light wont come on . in dash every thing else seems ok checked fuses under hood and below steering wheel. mileage 157000 .
timing belt ok. when the car was goin ok when u put key in a little key light came on in dash for a few seconds . started ok . but key light dose not come on at all could it be the key it self it has a chip in it i have been told .wats the next step if it is .
 
Did you change your timing belt? If yes. you should check for spark.. If ther's not spark. Then it's the dist. If there's spark.. Check for fuel.. It could be your main fuel relay too.
