when does android 2.2 come out?

I have read a lot about android 2.2, but I can't find when it comes out... I've looked all over, but there is no offical date. I was specifically looking at the motorola DROID, but possibly other droid phones. Also, how many apps does the android system CURRENTLY have?
 
It came out on the 20th of May; however, it may be a while before it actually rolls out on the phones. I currently have the Samsung Moment. Android system currently probably has over 300 applications.
