When does a game or console become 'retro'?

Its retro when the next generation of that console comes out.
I don't know why anyone would still own a PS2,save your money and get a PS3 or Xbox 360.If your a true gamer.
Gamecube and Xbox died off,its now time for PS2 to die off.
 
Thats wrong I have a ps2.And they say they are going to stop making games for it!BOOOO!Anyway its supposed to be like 7 years after its been released but in the world of today its probably 5 or six.
 
PS2 is not retro. You look at something like Soul Calibur 3, Pro Evolution 2009 or Smackdown 2009 and tell me its retro.

Retro is something that would be far less technical than current releases. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of new Tetris released in 2008, yet regardless of its release date, its still retro. Yesterday's formula.

PS2 is not retro, yet it has retro games. Check that shelf again in Gamestation. It could be full of games like Konami Collection and that sort of thing.

Retro = 15+ years old
