When do all army soldiers get their bonus money?

i was thinking about joining the army to pay for my college classes and then i saw something that says active soldiers get $40000 as a bonus. what i want to know is that if they give $40000 after like a month or two; or do they give it to you little by little? little by little as in like you get like $5000 every month plus your monthly income
