Baby on Board

I am 39 weeks 6 days pregnant, I am in a ton of pain, lots of pressure, lots of hip pain, I can hardly walk at all. I had my membranes stripped on Monday, a bloody show, strong contractions and so forth but my cervix wont dilate.. When I tell people I am in pain and just can't wait for the baby to come out, I get "You can't rush perfection they will come when they are ready!" or "Don't worry about delivery, with first children, they can be up to 2 weeks late."
Why do people say this? Do they not realize that is the exact opposite of what you want to hear? You don't want to hear that your pregnancy will go on for another 2 weeks when you are in agonizing pain... Is there some reason they think this is comforting?
Saying you have lots of time left is not a positive spin on anything.
It's also hard not to open a door to how I am feeling when I have to hold on to my husband or walls in order to walk and they can physically see that I am in pain.
