When discussing actions done by dead characters in English Lit. essays, do you

still use the present tense? Context in my essay: "Allegory is used to present him as a Christ-like figure rushing to the aid of others: "[Piggy] went crouching and feeling over the rocks but Simon, who got there first, found them for him" shows that he saved Piggy from adversity without delay, and the words "for him" highlight his selflessness."

I have mentioned that he is killed, so do I say "saved Piggy" or "saves Piggy"?

This is from Lord of the Flies by the way.

And do I continue, "Furthermore, he gives fruit to the hungry children..." or he "gave"?
